There is a word that describes a specific emotional state. It's Portuguese: "saudade". It has no equivalent in Polish. "Saudade" is a kind of sadness, nostalgia, longing, contemplation of passing, but also gratitude for what you have experienced, joy that in the past you had the opportunity to experience something beautiful. Portuguese "longing": gratitude and yearning.
Afterimages of places and events, blue suggestions of landscapes are fragments of memories of places I miss. Places I've been to and those I still want to see.
Constellations. Being able to observe the stars in the sky is one of the many things for which I am grateful.
I paint memories that are not entirely erased because I am also grateful for the memory of people and events from the past.
Painting is as important to me as caring for the garden in spring. In my paintings I combine several techniques. Objects found and selected are often the reason for creating the entire painting. A small note on a yellowed piece of paper from my grandfather's notes, a fragment of a postcard from the 1970s, a souvenir found in a drawer, a plaque - these items often begin the story told in the painting.
For me, creating small forms on paper is just as important as painting pictures on canvas. It is often in these small collages and pictures I create in my own technique that I tell the most mysterious stories.
